This year, drought conditions meant that many of our olive trees hunkered down and didn’t deliver much fruit and we are hopeful for better conditions next season. But our few Manzanillo olive trees did prosper so we have hand-picked a about two hundred kilos over the past week and are now busy salting them down to remove any impurities and get them ready for pickling.
As in every olive grove there are a few rogue varieties amongst our Frantoio and Corregiola trees that deliver olives perfect for pressing into very high quality extra virgin olive oil. Apart from the Manzanillos we have what we think are a few Greek Kalamata olive trees, so we have harvested these as well to include in the pickled olive mix.
